December 8 - 2-4:00 p.m.  

Majors field, NW Forsyth Little League, 1400 Runabout Road, Pfafftown, NC

 

December 11 - 6-8:00 p.m. 

Gene Hooks Field at Wake Forest Baseball Park, Shorefair Dr. entrance, Winston Salem 

 

December 15 - 2-4:00 p.m. 

Majors field, NW Forsyth Little League, 1400 Runabout Road, Pfafftown, NC

 

Method:

On December 8 and 11, the Sluggers will run "pro-style" work-outs for all candidates.  Be advised that evaluations begin upon your arrival, not when the drills commence.  Players must be early, listen to all instructions, give maximum effort, and hustle everywhere.  Appropriate baseball practice attire and position specific equipment required. 

• 15 minute warmup, measuring ability to listen and follow specific instruction

• 40-yard dash: 2 timed heats-2 players per heat, measuring speed

• Long toss: 10-20-30-40 yards, measuring chest to chest accuracy

• Outfield catch and throw:  Right field to 3rd & home, 3&2, measuring fielding, crow-hop, and arm strength

• Infield catch and throw:  SS to first, 1st to 3rd, home to 2nd, measuring range, quickness, and arm strength

• Batting Practice: cages warm-up, 3 sets of 6 live pitches, measuring bunt, bat speed, power, and opposite field abilities

On December 15, the Sluggers will conduct an inter-squad scrimmage.  Pitchers will be evaluated during this process. The particular make-up and length of the scrimmage will depend upon how many candidates register.  

 

Tips:

Evaluations will begin upon the players arrival, meaning that everything a player does after he gets out of the car will be utilized in the final decision making process.  Chemistry, attitude, and ability will all be measured, as they are the 3 keys to our success.  Some tips:   

• Be on time

• Give 100% effort on during each and every drill

• NO horseplay while waiting

• Be respectful and polite to all coaches, other players, and your parents

• Hustle at all times!!

Candidates will be evaluated by our current manager, Gary Faulkner; our spring manager, Tyler Vogler; and our Board members, Scott Barrett, Dwight Lewis, Jamie Mabe, and John Mikolaitis.
